    RED/BLUE Meet - Wednesday, June 19th

    Get ready for Stars Wars! Our next meet is at home on Wednesday, June 19 vs. Stars 
    Blue.
     We are the AWAY team at this meet. Therefore, our tents will be set up in the grassy area beyond the splash pool. Speaking of the splash pool, NO ONE will be allowed to swim in the splash pool during the meet!!

    Don't forget to bring plenty of water, bug spray and perhaps a flashlight (it'll get dark before we're done). You may bring your own beverages, but NO GLASS CONTAINERS. Concessions will be open and ready to serve you with dinner, snacks and cold drinks. We'll even have cotton candy!

    Our Apparel team will be selling during the meet, but only until the half due to limited quantities. They will also have plenty of caps and goggles in case you need replacements. Stop by and grab some Stars Wars tattoos to show your spirit or a neck cooler to cool you down. They will be set up by Concessions.

    We still have to follow a very strict timeline for this meet, despite it being in the afternoon and against our sister team. Cooperation and attention from parents, swimmers and volunteers is essential to ensure we finish on time. Please read this e-mail carefully!

    For injury, illness or any other situation that occurs which will prevent your child from attending the meet, please e-mail ([email protected]) or text (512-680-7556) me as soon as you know so we can adjust our meet entries.

    MEET LOCATION

    BELLA MAR POOL, STEINER RANCH

    Set Up Crew check-in time: 3:10 pm

    Tent Parent check-in time: 3:30 pm

    Swimmer check-in time: 3:40 pm (check in your child at their tent with the Tent Parent on duty)

    Volunteer check-in time - first AND second shifts: 3:40 pm (check in with the Volunteer Coordinators, Heather Ormond and Susanne Reh, after you’ve checked in your child at their tent)

    Stars warm-ups begin: 3:50 pm (we will be warming up simultaneously with the Blue Team; we will get 4 lanes, and they will get 4 lanes)

    First-shift READY BENCH report to position: 4:35 pm (we hope to have the first relay swimmers heading over at 4:45)

    First-shift volunteers, timers and judges report to positions: 4:50 pm

    Meet start time: 5:00 pm

    Second-shift volunteers, timers and judges: Your shift will start immediately following the Parents vs. Coaches Relay (if time permits) after Event 31

    SPORTSMANSHIP

    Good sportsmanship is expected, not requested. We are swimming against our friends, neighbors and classmates at this meet, and this might prompt the kids to egg each other on. Please talk to your kids about being respectful and encouraging. Win or lose, our swimmers need to always be good sports.

    PARKING

    Parking is extremely limited within the Bella Mar neighborhood. Attached is the map of approved parking within Bella Mar, and you can see there’s not much available. Biking, walking and carpooling are all great ideas! There will be no shuttle for this meet. Stars Red and Blue teams will be arriving at the meet at the same time, so please be patient. The Bella Mar lot is open to both teams for parking - first come, first served. You can drop off your swimmers and gear in the designated drop-off areas near the Bella Mar pool. Please be courteous at all times to our Parking volunteers. They are only doing what they've been instructed and should not have to endure any harsh comments. 

    TIME-SAVERS

    The Stars will utilize the following time-savers at this meet:

    • Eliminated Medley Relays. We will only have Freestyle Relays, and they will occur for all age groups at the beginning of the meet. Therefore, there will be no relays at the end of the meet. 
    • Combining heats. We will combine heats whenever possible.

    If we find that we are still running short on time, we may opt to use additional time-saving techniques as we have done in previous meets. The swimmers will be informed if this happens.

    SHIFT CHANGE WILL BE AFTER EVENT 31

    The shift change for this meet is after Event 31. We will have a Parents vs. Coaches relay during the shift change if time permits. Second-shift volunteers, timers and judges must already be in their positions and ready during the relay. Second shift will start immediately following the relay.

    EVENTS 46 AND 47 WILL OCCUR AFTER EVENT 49

    During a normal meet, Events 44 and 45 (girls and boys 6 & Under Butterfly) occur before the shift change, and Events 46 and 47 (girls and boys 6 & Under Breaststroke) occur after the shift change. This gives the 6&U swimmers a needed break if they happen to be swimming in both events. Since the shift change at this meet is after Event 31, we will swim 6&U Breaststroke (Events 46 and 47) after Event 49 so the swimmers will not have to swim events back-to-back.

    The combined heat sheet is attached to this e-mail. You can find all of the heat sheets on Swimtopia under the Quick Links section ‘Meet Heat Sheets and Results’. Please note: Relays are subject to change and reorganization until scratches are determined right before the meet starts.

    MEET MOBILE

    We are planning on having our meet available on Meet Mobile. Remember, the results that appear on Meet Mobile are preliminary and are for reference only until the official results are posted a few hours after the end of the meet.

    PRACTICE SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 17

    Due to the Red/Blue meet happening on Wednesday, we will have the following practice schedule for this week only:

    • Tuesday and Friday: normal practice
    • Wednesday: no practice
    • Thursday: optional 'light' practice

    AVAILABILITY OF FAMILY FOLDERS AFTER RED/BLUE

    The family folders will be available at practices during the week. However, since the Red/Blue meet is on Wednesday evening, family folders will not be available at practice on Thursday but will be back at practice on Friday morning with ribbons from the Red/Blue meet.
